I have learned that there is much you can say about chronic illness in general. I have spent almost a full 2 decades studying all manner of chronic conditions.
My condition led me to do this as I have rotating symptoms that fit a multitude of diagnosis.
Because of that I gave up on diagnosis a long time ago and started noticing that from where I stood all chronic illness has undeniable similarities with a lot of crossover symptoms from one condition to another.
Every human being is unique and no two illnesses are the same even when a diagnosis is the same.
There is so much crossover among auto-immune conditions and chronic illnesses that I found I was learning what I needed to learn about my particular condition by studying and spending time with many illnesses and 1000s of suffering human beings. I found help in all categories of illness that I spent time with. Including a multitude of auto-immune conditions and then also conditions like Lupus, MS, parkinsons, cancer etc.
For ease of communication and because my treatment has required some common language at times, I’ve currently settled on Lyme and Tardive dyskinesia for what I’m dealing with for now. I have had symptoms and full lived experience with many other conditions, some of which have been diagnosed at various times (endometriosis, for example). I have healed some of these conditions and others continue to rage on. New things sometime emerge.
Chronic illness always has a multitude of causations that collect over a lifetime.
I see things both holistically and kaleidoscopically because the variables in every human being makes all illness endlessly variant regardless of diagnosis.
Lyme as a diagnosis is highly problematic on it’s own without understanding this aspect to how variable it is, for example. Lots of people have the bacteria associate with “lyme” and associated other bugs in their body without it affecting their health. There are always other factors and pharma is likely often involved even when not recognized when it comes to tardive dyskinesia as associated with bartonella a “lyme” bacteria that causes dyskinesia. The lyme dx has helped me view all chronic illness from a microbiome window. see: Chronic Lyme Misconceptions, Complexity and Diversity
The TD in my body is a monstrosity because of the multiple causations.
That has involved a multitude of microorganisms and environmental toxins, including pharmaceuticals, not because it’s one thing or another. Medicine as practiced currently has no framework to deal with such complexity. They like to slice up the human being and only concentrate on some tiny window of the body/mind complex mostly without considering all the other aspects that are often of equal and sometimes more importance than whatever they’re focusing on. (and that depends on what discipline or branch of medicine one is researching from).
I have always been a generalist and it’s because I like to stand back and look at the whole picture.
It’s far more complex and harder to hold the whole picture. It also requires patience and mindful attendance for long periods (no quick fixes.) MDs are simply not that creative or capable of what is required most of the time. Also, at this point, most patients are not either. They, too want quick fixes.
There are no quick fixes for chronic conditions.
Those things that take a lifetime to develop will take years to overcome and if pharma is involved the toxicity in the body is that much more complex. A long history of pharmaceutical use is a reason for those in hardcore detox circles to dismiss people as hopeless. I’ve come to understand why. The stuff that gets held up in biofilm from pharmaceuticals is nasty in ways no one knows what do do about. I’m learning by doing and it ain’t pretty.
So what all goes into making us sick? Or well for that matter? EVERYTHING.
And we’re back to my favorite meme. For better or worse because sometimes I frankly hate it. My life, however, has only made sense when I can sit with and learn to see and untangle all these things. Healing is both a deconditioning and an unveiling and opening up of everything.

EVERYTHING matters.
The body you were born with. The body you have today. Your relationships with others and the planet, the food you eat, and the air you breath…. how often you move your body and the thoughts you nurture in your mind and soul.
That is what understanding ourselves as holistic beings entails.
Understanding our relationship and interconnectedness to EVERYTHING in our environment, what we’re born with and how it’s all intertwined and that we cannot be separated from it.
We are kaleidoscopic beings — endlessly variant.
Social, political, psychological, ecological, cultural, biological aspects of life all have impact. The micro-biome, too matters. All those millions of little bugs all over us and in us too.
We cannot begin to understand our nature if we don’t engage our kaleidoscopic reality in a very active way . Everything Matters — it’s the meme I use as a title for my work because it encapsulates our essence…

See these too:
- Nature vs nurture, biological vs. psychological: how about both/and rather than either/or (Everything Matters)
- As holistic beings medical & psychological/spiritual issues are almost always intertwined
- Healing isn’t a choice for me — it’s an imperative; my body is in charge
- That which gets labeled psychiatric illness is not only one thing…we are holistic beings
More info — none of which is mutually exclusive…just different possible windows on the same issues.
